Design Brief—Due Session 3—10/20
Please address the following questions and post to server for all instructors to preview.
Note: you may want to set-up a separate link to "Term Project"
The following questions should be addressed when developing your design brief:

o Define the direction of your site.
o What is the goal of your site?
o Who is your intended audience?
o What are the unique needs of your audience?
o What types of information will your audience expect to gather from your site?
o Does your audience have any user-restrictions and how do you intend to address these restrictions?
o What value-added components can you incorporate into your site?
o What structural paths will you take with your site?
o Address who will test your site and why?
o Conduct a visual and functional web audit; please list the URL's that closely address your site goals.


Static Prototype of Main and Secondary Page—Due Session 6—11/10
At this stage each team member will do his or her own design interpretation of the team site.
This allows each member to visually interpret his or her design intent. Each student will provide the following deliverables:

o Visual language screen(s) that present the visual philosophy of the site and other
iconic styles
o Screen with site grid and typefaces

o Screen with proposed color palette

o Screen that introduces the site along with global navigation

o Secondary screen that uses global and local navigation



User-Testing of Static Prototype—Due Session 7—11/17
The term project team will pick three relative sources to test each member's static presentation. The team will be responsible for developing and administering a user-test. The objective is to take the consensus of the test results and develop a visual branding systems for the final site. The team will then create the pages for the final site using this revised visual system. The team will provide the following deliverables:

o Results of the usability studies.
o Prototype of home page and secondary screen.
o Visual language board including grid, typefaces, color palette and supporting graphics

Note: Post assignments on UW server until Sean discusses posting on his server. At that time all term projects will be transferred and posted on his server.


Final Presentation
—Session 10—12/15, 8:30 a.m., MGH rm 27

For the final exam each team will prepare a twenty-minute presentation of their site to include the following information:

o Design Brief (3-hard copies to be given to each instructor, and post to group server space).
o Site Map (3-hard copies attached to Design Brief given to each instructor, and post to group server space).
o User Testing: present results (post to group server space).
o Style Guides: fonts, color palette, frame grid, navigation on/off and visual language (post to group server space).
o Working Site: Home page and individual sections functioning with actual content.


To present your site in a clear and concise manner it is important that each team prepare for the final presentation. The following is general outline of information for your presentation:

1. Review key points of the design brief such as goals, audience, objective and initial research justifying the need for the site.

2. Discuss process to include content gathering, research and how this informed the visual language of the static prototype and site map.

3. Overview site map.

4. Present user-testing results; discuss how this information resulted in the sites style guides.

5. Overview the site style guides.

6. Present functioning site along with a discussion of additional components that you propose to
